Resources

During this season of Lent, we are called to Ignatian contemplation, reflection, and prayer to encourage us. Below are resources in the tradition of Ignatian spirituality. Check back frequently as new resources will be added as they are published.

Daily Lenten Prayer Intentions – Daily Lenten prayer intentions accompanied by reflections on Lent written by Midwest Jesuits.

Self-Guided Lenten Retreat –Nine Jesuit priests from Midwest Jesuits’ retreat ministries share reflections
on Lent. Make a virtual retreat with their words and pictures from the retreat houses.

Midwest Jesuits Way of the Cross – Reflections on the 14 Stations of the Cross written by Jesuits and lay colleagues from the Midwest Province.  Available in written or audio format.

Jesuit Prayer – Receive the daily Scripture reading, an Ignatian reflection, and a short prayer each day through the app, on the website, or by signing up for the daily email. You may also submit a prayer request; all are remembered in Masses celebrated by the Jesuits.

Lenten Audio Reflections – Sign up to receive weekly podcasts by email, offered by the Office of Ignatian Spirituality. The reflections are written by young adult members of the Contemplative Leaders in Action program.

Traveling the Landscape of Lent  Every week, a new voice from our Jesuit community of Ignatian writers will guide you along the Lenten journey, sharing stories and reflections from their own experiences of encountering God in places similar to those found in the Gospel stories.

2024 Lenten Retreat: Finding and Cultivating Hope in Difficult Times  The Gregorian University Foundation will be offering a complimentary virtual guided retreat extended over the six weeks of Lent. The two talks per week, with reflections drawn from the Gospel and personal experiences, offer participants inspiration, motives, and practices for finding and cultivating hope this Lenten season.

The Life of Jesus Lenten Read-Along – This annual Lenten read-along with Loyola Press features The Life of Jesus by Andrea Tornielli. The reading schedule is available at the link. Readers are invited to post thoughts, favorite quotes, or reactions with #lentreadalong on social media.

Beauty in the Desert: An Ignatian Lenten Offering – This Lent, the Jesuit Conference is inviting Ignatian writers to meditate upon a poem and a song that inspires them during this season. Art, we believe, helps us deepen our understanding of God in our world and our lives. Sign Up to receive weekly emails.

An Ignatian Prayer Adventure – Join in an adapted version of the Spiritual Exercises, perfectly timed as a Lent and Easter retreat. Materials are modified from the longer retreat in The Ignatian Adventure by Kevin O’Brien, SJ. This year Fr. Kevin O’Brien, SJ, author of Considering Jesus, will offer weekly video reflections based on themes of the retreat.

Growing in Friendship with God this Lent – This Lent, grow in your friendship with God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit with this series from the dotMagis blog. Find Fr. William Barry’s meditations for Lenten Wednesdays and reflections inspired by the mediations on IgnatianSpirituality.com.

Lent 2024: it’s time to refresh – Receive daily reflections emailed to you each morning from the Ignatian Solidarity Network, reflecting on how we can refresh our souls and our imaginations to make space for the spirit.

From Ashes to Glory (Lenten Examen by Fr. Joe Tetlow, SJ) From Ashes to Glory invites you to take up the practice of reflecting on your day, its gifts and graces, and the progress you are making in life with Christ. It’s a way of praying the Examen through Lent, with materials by Fr. Joseph Tetlow, SJ.

3-Minute Retreat – Loyola Press offers a short daily retreat in English and in Spanish, online or through an app.

Living Lent Daily
 – Explore how to listen for God’s voice through Living Lent Daily, an e-mail series inspired by God’s Voice Within by Mark E. Thibodeaux, SJ. Each day you’ll receive a message with an excerpt from the book, a prayer experience, or a reflection on discernment and decision-making.

Seven Last Words – Online prayer meditations commemorating each of the seven last words that Jesus uttered from the cross.

Arts & Faith: Lent – Each week you’ll find a video commentary about a work of art inspired by the Sunday Scriptures. Use these videos to take a new look at this season of spiritual renewal through the lens of sacred art.

Lenten Resources from Xavier University – A variety of resources and prayers for Lent
