Jarvis, Edward A.
Jesuit Father Edward A. Jarvis died on Aug. 23, 2015, at Manresa Hall in Philadelphia, at the age of 91. He had been a Jesuit priest for 61 years.
A native of Philadelphia, Fr. Jarvis graduated from St. Joseph’s High School and entered the Society of Jesus at the Novitiate of St. Isaac Jogues in Wernersville, Pennsylvania, in 1941. He received his bachelor’s from Woodstock College, as well as his master’s in philosophy and Licentiate of Sacred Theology. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1954. Fr. Jarvis taught philosophy at the University of Scranton from 1956 through 1988 before becoming assistant pastor at Old St. Joseph’s Church in Philadelphia. In 1999, he was appointed assistant to the rector at Wheeling Jesuit University, and moved to Manresa Hall in 2005 to pray for the Church and the Society.
