Midwest Province Offices Closed

While this is a time of concern, it is also a time of consolation; we are in the arms of a loving God, in whose time these concerns will pass

March 16, 2020

Dear Friends of the Midwest Jesuits,

Greetings and blessings.

So much has been written and reported about the Covid-19 pandemic, even to the point of saturation; the reality is that we are at a relatively early stage in terms of its impact, both here and abroad. We feel the burden of uncertainty.

With that in mind, and out of an abundance of concern for the well-being of Jesuits and province staff, we have closed the offices of the USA Midwest Province, effective March 16th, until further notice. Events are fluid, unpredictable, and subject to change dramatically, with surprising immediacy. Our staff will strive to continue operations remotely.

We pray for those who are most severely affected by these circumstances: those without access to medical care, those who are undocumented, the poor, the elderly, and any who feel alone. Of primary concern is the well-being of those at the margins, both in the world, and in our own lives. We pray for them.

While this is a time of concern, it is also a time of consolation; we are in the arms of a loving God, in whose time these concerns will pass. We encourage you to be mindful of your own spiritual and emotional well-being, even as you care for others. A list of online Ignatian Spirituality resources is available through our website to accompany you.

Many Jesuit apostolates are offering online Masses and programs; a list of resources is available here.

As we “fast” from social gatherings, let us redouble our ways via phone, email, video chats, etc. to reach out to one another, friends and family, and especially to the lonely, isolated and vulnerable in our social networks.

The Midwest Jesuits will keep you in our prayers, ask that you pray for us, and for all who are suffer in these uncertain times.
